The ADS1232 is a precision 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for demanding sensor applications. Featuring a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA), a precision delta-sigma ADC, and an internal oscillator, the ADS1232 offers a complete front-end solution for bridge sensor applications like weigh scales, strain gauges, and pressure sensors.
This versatile device includes an input multiplexer (MUX) capable of accepting two differential inputs, along with a built-in temperature sensor for monitoring ambient temperature. The low-noise PGA offers selectable gains of 1, 2, 64, or 128, supporting a wide range of input voltages from ±2.5 V to ±19.5 mV.
With a maximum effective resolution of 23.5 bits, the delta-sigma ADC provides accurate data acquisition and supports two data rates: 10 SPS (with rejection for 50-Hz and 60-Hz frequencies) and 80 SPS. Clocking options include external oscillators or crystals, as well as an internal oscillator for added convenience.
Offset calibration is performed on-demand, and the ADS1232 offers flexible power management options, including a low-power standby mode and power-down mode for efficient energy usage. Operating through simple pin-driven control, the ADS1232 eliminates the need for programming digital registers.
Data output is facilitated through a two-wire serial interface, enabling seamless connectivity to microcontrollers such as the MSP430. With its advanced features and ease of use, the ADS1232 is the perfect choice for precise analog-to-digital conversion in various sensor applications.
